Black maternal health disparities are the unequal pregnancy and birth outcomes experienced by Black women compared to other racial groups.
These disparities reflect systemic inequities in healthcare access, quality of care, and broader social conditions that influence health.
Black women are 3–4x more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than White women.

Black maternal health disparities are driven by a combination of systemic inequities in healthcare, implicit bias in medical settings, unequal access to quality care, and broader social conditions that influence health. These factors can affect the care Black mothers receive during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

The Louisville Coalition for Black Maternal Health is committed to advancing equity, improving maternal and infant health outcomes, and supporting Black families in our community. Through education, advocacy, partnerships, and community engagement, we work to address the systemic factors that contribute to maternal health disparities.
